This old blog of mine is named Voice of the Prokonsul. Why? Voice is a reference to Voice of America, a tribute to the news media that helped the "good guys" win the Cold War.
Prokonsul is a reference to the poem I described already on this blog many years ago.
On the subject of names, I sign as Prokonsul Piotrus on Wikipedia and in many other online places. Piotrus is a latinization, not a diminutive (of Piotr). Think of it as my nod to the Sarmatian culture I was fond of in my youth.
Interestingly, since I moved to Korea, I have found that local customs have led me to use my middle name, Bronisław, quite frequently as well. This one is a tribute (chosen by my parents, not that I mind at all) to my grandfather, Bronisław Konieczny.
We all need names. I learned my name was not unique back when I was an undergraduate student and I was told by the administration lady that there were two other Piotr Konieczny's studying at my university :) Ha. I wonder if they are on Wikipedia? I got a nice surprise few months ago when a fellow Wikipedian judged me notable and penned an entry about myself. See the lists of notable Piotr Konieczny's on Polish Wikipedia here.
